Gurgaon renamed as ‘Gurugram’

Gurgaon renamed as ‘Gurugram’

What? Yes, you heard it right. Our very own Gurgaon will now be known as ‘Gurugram’. This decision has been taken by the Manohar Lal Khattar government on Tuesday.

Why? Gurgaon’s name change stems from a proposal by the municipal corporation in 2012. As per the government, this is a positive step and will only draw all of people closer to the rich heritage Gurgaon once.

What else? According to a corporation committee member, Gurgaon is said to have been the ancestral village of Guru Dronacharya, who in the Mahabharata instructed the Pandavas and Kauravas.  Renaming to Gurugram is to emphasise the fact that : this is where Guru Dronacharya used to live. Not many people are aware of it.
