It was all girls trip in 1st week of May for 4 days. On day 1 as planned we visited world famous Tulip festival in Keukenhof gardens and a date with millions of tulips. It was just so magical to explain and despite all our efforts we were not able to capture the beauty and feel, well it’s almost impossible. The site of thousand types of tulips of different colors and shapes will makes you want to stay there forever. Only song came to my mind again and again was “Ye kahaan aa gaye hum” from movie Silsila.
Next day as planned we took a walking tour inside Amsterdam first and then a Canal cruise which was beautiful and later a tour to infamous red-light district. Amsterdam has a different feel with slim trim narrow houses colorfully painted, museums, and famous koffee shops. Night life is dazzling. We got to know some hidden secrets of the infamous city. I would not elaborate as they say what happens in Amsterdam stays in Amsterdam:).
We were left with 2 more days in Amsterdam, so we decided to explore Volendam and Marken- fishing villages near Amsterdam. It’s all about fishing, music and cheese in these villages. In Volendam we visited cheese factory and tasted different types of cheese. Volendam to Marken is a 20 minutes ferry ride. Marken is a village withnarrow streets and the historic former-fishermen’s cottagesand where some families still dress in traditional Dutch outfits especially the older generation. These villages have their own well-preserved culture in costumes, trade and crafts. We also visited the shoe factory in Marken andsaw how the famous Dutch wooden shoes are made and got one as a souvenir.Last day of the trip we went to Zaanse Schans. It was drizzling and was cold.Zaanse Schans has a collection of well-preserved ancient windmills and houses. Some of the windmills were built in the 16th century . The picturesque windmills lined-up along the tranquil lake made me miss my husband in the romantic countryside. Breatheand antiquity of Holland’s glory are the houses which are doll-shaped sizes so Pretty and adorable. Apart from taking pictures which I can easily turn into postcards there is clog making and cheese factory which was little commercialized compared to one we visited in Volendam.
Our 4thday trip though tiring was well spent and memorable. Amsterdam is more than what is always portrayed. So guys if you ever plan to visit Amsterdam do visit the beautiful villages,
